“Our Promise.” – Bradbury Preschools Acknowledgement of Country in Key Word Sign

At Bradbury Preschool we pay our respects to the Dharawal people, the traditional custodians, of the land on which we learn and play each day.

Our Acknowledgement was developed with the input and consultation of families and our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) committee.

We believe inclusion is important and this year we have incorporated the use of key words in sign language.

We introduced our Acknowledgement of Country or “Our Promise” as we call it with our preschoolers, back in 2017.

Over the years, and in consultation with our RAP committee and families, we have revisited, reflected on and amended Our Promise to better demonstrate our commitment and to ensure it is meaningful and tangible for our age groups.

Our Promise aims to serve not only as a verbal Acknowledgement to the Dharawal people but also as a guide for practice whilst out on Country. We reference Our Promise regularly throughout the day; during conversations, planned experiences and spontaneous teachable moments.

This year, to further promote inclusivity and respect, we engaged the assistance of a Key Word Sign facilitator and implemented Auslan to Our Promise. We have also incorporated the Deaf Indigenous Communities sign for Australia/Land/Country.
