Bradbury Pre-School Children Celebrate NAIDOC 2024

This year’s NAIDOC theme is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud!’

We honoured this by committing to keeping our camp fire burning for the entire week! No easy task with the damp and drizzly weather but we persevered and succeeded!

Our fire became a meeting place for cooking, deep discussions around Country and culture, songs and connection. Throughout the week we had many opportunities to connect with Country by exploring and painting natural materials, weaving, and investigating Aboriginal symbols, to name just a few.

We promoted Caring for Country and conservation by planting a diverse array of native plants within our grounds. This will provide important habitat for birds, bees and insects, and with the addition of our frog hotel, we hope to encourage the local amphibians as well!

Bush foods are a big feature in our preschool program and what better way to connect with culture than through its food! We explored native flavours by sampling damper with qoungdong jam, cooking garriga (crab) and prawns on the fire seasoned with native flavours like kunzea, and we washed it all down with plenty of lemon myrtle tea!
